Vodafone is to introduce a new, location-based SMS emergency warning system which, when fully operational next year, will alert mobile phone users of an emergency situation occurring in their local area. The system will also allow SMS alerts to be sent to international and domestic tourists who are visiting areas where an emergency situation arises.
