Apple will probably release iOS 8 at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) tomorrow, the traditional time of its mobile operating system upgrade launches.

Last week, as it unveiled the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and trumpeted a coming-in-2015 smartwatch, Apple confirmed that it would make iOS 8 available for download on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

iOS 8 will be available as an over-the-air update for the iPhone 4S and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad Mini, and the fifth-generation iPod Touch. Alternately, users can download the upgrade through iTunes on a Mac or Windows PC, then apply it to an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch connected to the computer.
