Pilot fish makes the two-hour drive to another state to deal with problems in a voice mail system he installed last year.

“A senior manager at this small company was having a problem where the greeting he was recording wasn’t playing for callers,” says fish. “Instead, the voice was that of a person who left a year ago!

“When I arrived, I asked him to show me what he was doing, thinking he had somehow forwarded his phone to another extension.

“Everything seemed fine, but when we called his number from his cell I heard a voice playing from the outer office.

“It seems that someone had taken an old answering machine out of a drawer and connected it to a phone jack for his outside line. We pulled the cables, and I asked him to dispose of the old machine.”
