Forget the official Surface Pro 3 docking station. A group of Microsoft employees came up with something better as part of a company hackathon.

As seen in this MSDN blog post, the “Surface Pro 3-in-1” turns Microsoft’s tablet into a secondary, VESA-mounted desktop display, while powering up to two additional monitors. The tablet slides into the dock in portrait orientation, and its 40-pin connector hooks up to the dock’s DisplayPort, power, and USB ports.

Not much other information about the dock is available. Apparently it was created at Microsoft’s Maker Garage, which where employees can tinker with small-scale hardware projects. The MSDN post uses the term “sneak peak,” but it’s unclear whether the dock will become a real product that you can buy.
