Xbox One sales in April gave Microsoft a glimmer of hope in the console market, but the PlayStation 4 retook the top position in the U.S. last month, according to Sony.

The PS4 was the top-selling console and the leader in software sales in the U.S. in May, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) said. It did not specify the source of its data.

“PS4 continues to be the cumulative sales leader in the U.S. and globally with more than 20 million consoles already in the market,” Sousuke Kamei, a spokesman at SCE headquarters in Tokyo, said via email. The company will share news about what’s next for the console at the E3 video game expo on June 15.

The statement from Sony is a sign of the incredibly tight competition in the gaming market as both titans vie for consumers’ dollars.
