It’s around the turn of Y2k, and it seems like everyone is getting Palm PDAs for their professional employees, according to an IT pilot fish who wasn’t issued one.

“The members of our accounting group, which I supported, were all issued PalmPilots,” fish says. “We were not asked for support often, but on occasion we got a question.

“One day a lady brought me her Pilot and said it wouldn’t respond to anything. Not having used one, I started looking it over and determined she was right — no response at all.

“My question to her: Have you changed the batteries?

“She said ‘No.’ Two new AAA batteries later, problem solved.

“Three months later, same lady came to my desk. ‘The Pilot won’t respond to anything,’ she said.
